all you need is a ramp and a cosine function and some math...

...

you have to code the sound character...
LOL. "A ramp, a cosine function, and some math." This is exactly the kind of navel-gazing nonsense I'm talking about.

What musician has any interest in this? It reminds me of a ham radio operator fiddling with his equipment down in his bunker while everyone else pursues more creative endeavors.

This is probably why Super 8 wasn't successful. It didn't appeal to the typical uber dweeb NI fanboy who prefers tinkering with the building blocks of sound over actually writing or performing music. While these dorks mess around with Reaktor, I'll be practicing the piano to improve my musical abilities.

Since I earn a good living, I pay others to design great-sounding instruments. It's like taking my car to a reputable mechanic. I could fix it myself, but why would I? People who build mostly terrible-sounding Reaktor instruments are like my mechanic – valuable for providing a technical service I can't be bothered to do myself. Actually, Reaktor nerds are more like the guy who mows my lawn and trims my hedges. He provides a useful service, but it certainly isn't artistry.

I'm glad Reaktor fanboys have a hobby they enjoy, just like I'm happy ham radio operators have found meaning and purpose in their sad lives by commiserating with fellow dweebs about how the rest of us just don’t understand their amazing communication tool. But like most people, I'll use the Internet and my iPhone to communicate. Similarly, I'll rely on Diva, Dune 3, Microwave 1, multi/poly native, Omnisphere, Zebra, and other great-sounding instruments (both hardware and software) to write music.

I feel sorry for those who go so far down the Reaktor rabbit hole that they have completely lost the plot. But I suppose it helps them avoid confronting their mediocrity as musicians. There's always another ramp or cosine function to distract them.
Ahh ,,the good old reaktor fanboys argument , automatically assumming that builders are geeks and don't make music .
I make music and also design stuff , both can perfectly coexist :tu:
You create a small macro , abstraction , instrument and re-use it for years to come , so no it's not wasted time at all .
You should try it once in a while , you might learn a thing or two about synthesis instead of s..t posting
I just recognize great tools when they come by , reaktor is one of them
And so is zebra , max -msp , pure data , supercollider etc...all tools
