I have one that is my constant companion and it's not awesome but it's been my bread and butter when Ideas come quickly.
Korg Triton.
As a rompler it's limited. Only two oscillators per instrument leads much to be desired when you want to really explore the full capabilities of expressive dynamic control. Nonetheless I always find the sound I'm going for quickly. The combi's are nothing short of amazing for filling up the sound That's why it's the only plugin shortcut on my desktop. I think of a quick idea and my daws take forever to load. I hate the free host software on the market.
Sometimes I just want to play/practice. No long loading times of daws and plugins, no endless searching for something that may sound right for the mix.
When it's scoring time it's a different matter. I'll usually open Verve in Cubase and wander through the piano collection. Getting the initial feel above the complete orchestration leads me down the path and keeps me there.
