I don't think Clavia cares, musicians buy the hardware for usage on stage mostly. A software emu can and will never be the same as having direct access to all the dedicated knobs and buttons and unique hands-on features on the Nords.
Nord Leads excels at easy work flow and performance for musicians. Clavia do not sell Nord Lead 1/2/2x/3 or 4 anymore either. They have already made their money and the lifetime is long over... The original Nord developer haven't been involved for decades. The real genius was the original Clavia people and they don't work there anymore...
Too bad that they decided not to pursue with something new and fresh, instead they released a not-as-cool Nord Lead A1 and then silence..
Same goes for Nord Modular, its still a remarkable modular synth and audio engine, but can only be bought second hand. No official updates for the editor to work with Mac or Windows....
If you don't intend to be on the market anymore, then there should be no problem with someone using a ROM. People have been selling unofficial copies of the physical ROMs for several decades... Why should Clavia be upset about that if they don't even make 'em no more.
